History and Mission

Pro Musica Youth Chorus educates and empowers young singers to grow and express themselves joyfully through diverse and exceptional musical experiences.

Through song, we learn, grow, achieve, and experience joy. The Pro Musica Youth Chorus is a place to be for musical youth.

Pro Musica Youth Chorus began as the Oak PowerPoint PresentationPark and River Forest Children’s Chorus in 1990. It began as one ensemble under the direction of Dr. Carolyn Paulin. Currently, the chorus  has four performing ensembles with singers in 1st through 12th grade. Through developmental, performance-based programs that draw on a diverse range of the finest choral music, the Chorus transforms natural love of song into artistic excellence; teaches musical skills and appreciation; promotes personal poise, confidence, and responsibility; develops cooperation and teamwork; and prepares leaders of artistic life for our communities.

The ensembles from the Pro Musica Youth Chorus perform in a variety of venues. Singers participate in community and ecumenical events as well as professional events. The PMYC has sung with Chicago Chamber Musicians, Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest, Joffrey Ballet,  and the Oriana Singers, as well as other youth choruses such as the Guatemalan National Youth Chorus. In April 2010, the Pro Musica Youth Chorus was honored to be selected as the Featured Choir of the National Children’s Choir Festival at Carnegie Hall.  Our most recent tour was to London, England, to sing in Westminster Hall for the New Year’s Day Celebration held by the Lord Mayors of London.
